Do you ever just watch something spin out of control? I feel like that is all have been doing these past two weeks. All the plans. All the friendships. All the security. It all has just been falling apart right before my eyes, and I honestly feel helpless. It is not that I am personally helpless. It is just that I feel helpless because I can’t help.
It’s like watching a car wreck. It’s so sad and so terrible, and you can’t do anything to stop it, but you can’t take your eyes of it. Anger is the same way. Although I am not personally angry, watching the anger and the wrath of the people around me is like a car crash. I just want to hold my arms out and give them a huge hug, but it won’t help.
“Like one who seizes a dog by the ears, is a passer-by who meddles in a quarrel not his own.” - Proverbs 26:17 This isn’t my fight, so I have no right to interfere. In fact, I would be a fool to interfere because it would only cause the anger to affect me. I am not strong enough to deal with a person in the midst of a argument. “An offended brother is more unyielding than a fortified city, and disputes are like the barred gates of a citadel.” Proverbs 18:19. But just because I can’t interfere doesn’t mean I can’t love.
As Romans 12:5 says, we are all one body of Christ. So therefore, I can’t just sit here and do nothing. 1 Peter 4:8 says “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins.” So NO matter how angry you get. So NO matter how upset you are. So NO matter how extreme the circumstances, you need to love. Love is so great and so powerful.
Jesus Christ proved to us just how powerful love is when he died on that cross for us. He loved us so much that he was willing to suffer to give us a chance to be saved. So why, may I ask, are we so willing love the ones who are “nice” to us, but so unwilling to love those who may offend us? Jesus Christ loved every single one of those people who persecuted him, regardless of the pain. We need to be like him. Regardless of the mocking, the teasing, the yelling, the screaming, the pain and the suffering we may encounter during our life time, we MUST love unceasingly.
Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
I pray to God that there is enough love to go around, because there is so much love needed here. So much.
